Right now, it's 3:25am and I'm looking at a bunch of spanish guys crying and hugging each other. I woke up in the middle of the night, checked my e-mail and decided to see how the men's Olympic road race was doing on NBCOlympics.com's live stream.
My not so good play-by-play:
I just caught the race with 2k to go.
The race clock is above six hours.
Schleck is on the front. Cancellara, Schleck, Rebellin, Sanchez, and two other riders [Alexandr Kolobnev (RUS), Michael Rogers (AUS)] are riding the final kilometer together...
[...]
Samuel Sanchez (ESP) is now an Olympic Gold Medalist by a gap of 50m.
Davide Rebellin (ITA) takes Silver, and Fabian Cancellara (SWI) takes Bronze...
Is Spain having a kickass year or what? Aside from Sastre taking The Tour (no bad news yet), Sanchez is the first Spaniard to ever win a gold medal in the sport of cycling in the history of the Olympics!
...It's also Rebellin's 37th birthday today.
I'm going back to bed. Now, my blog is officially the most up to date news source because, as of 3:33am MTN time, Cyclingnews hasn't even posted an official story.
